1. RÜFÜS

RÜFÜS have made this post very easy and written us a nice little Novella about themselves, check this, Once upon a time, a long long time ago It all began  on a stormy night..*flashback music*…..

RÜFÜS  formed  one  rainy  evening  in  the  coastal   town  of  Byron  Bay  home  of  the  unemployed   and  one  of  the  last  pockets  of  Australia’s  fading   hippie  culture.  It  was  early  autumn  and  Jon’s   younger  brother  had  brought  Tyrone  and  a   bunch  of  other  friends  up  from  Sydney  to  visit   Jon  in  the  beach  pad  he  was  renting  in  the Byron  hillside.

During  the  week,  Jon    an  audio  production  graduate  and   DJ/Producer  with  a  number  of  remix  credits  to  his  name   helped   Swedish/Australian  folk  singer-‐songwriter  Tyrone  record  some  acoustic  tracks   he  had  been  working  on,  and  in  exchange,  Tyrone  helped  Jon  write  a  bunch  of   hooks  for  some  house  numbers.  It  was  a  fortuitous  meeting  of  two  talented   musicians.

On  Tyrone’s  last  night  in  Byron,  Jon’s  bro  and  the  rest  of  their  guests  were   going  to  see  a  band  playing  in  town,  Jon  didn’t  go  because  he  doesn’t  like  the   rain,  Tyrone  didn’t  go  because  he  had  a  bank  balance  of  $7.36;  the  legacy  of   an  expensive  week  indulging  in  Byron’s  hippie  delights.  Left  alone  in  the  house   with  no  money,  drinks  or  company  the  two  of  them  decided  to  write  some   tunes  together  for  the  first  time.       While  the  rest  of  Jon’s  party  focused  guests  soaked  up  the  Byron  nightlife  (and   weather),  Jon  and  Tyrone  began  creating  the  foundations  to  a  bass  driven   melody  with  a  unique  chilled  dancey  groove.  The  guests  returned  home  in  the   early  hours  of  the  following  morning  and  were  all  blown  away  to  hear  the   results  of  the  late  night  studio  session  with  an  undeniable  musical  chemistry   between  the  two  making  a  special  track  that  would  later  go  on  to  form   RÜFÜS’  popular  dance  floor  filler,  ’We  Left.’

When  Jon  returned  home  to  Sydney  in  the  mid  2010,  the  two  met  up  weekly   writing  and  self-‐producing  their  self  titled  debut  EP.  They  got  the  music  out   online  and  to  Australian  radio  stations  Triple  J  and  Sydney’s  FBi  to  a  positive   response  both  locally  and  internationally.  People  wanted  live  shows.  Enter   exciting  drummer,  James  Hunt.

With  James  on  board  the  duo  became  a  band.  They  have  since  successfully   launched  their  independent  debut  EP  to  a  pumping  room  in  Sydney  (available on  iTunes,  Amazon,  Bandcamp  and  more  from  01/01/11).  While   internationally  there  is  a  groundswell  building  that  has  seen  French  label,  ’On   the  Fruit  Records’  commission  several  high  profile  remixes  of  their  tracks  that   will  be  released  in  Europe  in  early  2011.       With  a  string  of  gigs  over  summer,  the  boys  writing  new  material  all  the  time   and  ears  pricking  up  around  the  world,  RÜFÜS  are  excited  to  see  what  the  late   nights  and  long  days  of  2011  will  bring.

Riveting stuff, I had a cup of tea whilst reading that.In Kick ass fashion OTF recs  are planning a club version of “We Left” with remixes by Symbolone (!!!OMFG), Go Go Bizkitt!, Broke One, Beaumont, Springflower, Monsieur Adi and Ride the Universe which will be out in a couple of months.
